Harty Hopes Trophy Won’T Be The Last

Ian Harty won the SPFA First Division Player of the Year award on Sunday evening. The striker, who has been in tremendous form this season, won the accolade voted for by his fellow professionals at a star-studded award ceremony on Sunday night in Glasgow.

The website managed to get a few words from Ian on his award, which is recognition of how far he has come since last season at Stranraer, when The Blues were relegated to the Third Division despite his goals:

“It was a nice surprise to receive the award. After the start I had at the club, it was a shock to be nominated, so to actually win the award was tremendous. There can be no greater accolade than to be voted for by your fellow professionals so it was a great feeling.”

Ian was unable to attend the ceremony and pick up the award but he praised the man who collected it for him:

“I had food poisoning so it was left to Alan Kernaghan to go along and pick up the award on my behalf. After the start I had to the season, Alan was great and kept telling me to stick in and that my chance would come.”

The striker finished by talking about his partnership with Andy Smith and his hope that their goals will drag Clyde into the SPL:

“It was a bit of luck that gave Andy Smith and myself the chance to play and we both took it with both hands. Neither of us has looked back and obviously the team has benefited from that as well. It would be great if the goals could help us go on and reach the SPL. That achievement would mean something for the fans, players and everyone at the club to look forward to and would help everyone have a good summer.”
