10 Years @ Broadwood

Thursday marked the 10th anniversary of Clyde at Broadwood. On the 5th February 1994, Hamilton Accies came to the stadium and deflated the majority of the 6300 crowd with a 2-0 win.

Since that day, there have been a lot of ups and downs for Bully Wee supporters but most will have a particular memory that stands out.

To celebrate the occasion, members can vote for their favourite home match during the 10 year spell from the shortlist below…

1. Clyde 3 v 1 Dundee (Scottish Cup 3rd Round, 31.01.96)
With the prospect of a tie against Rangers at home in the next round looming, fans helped clear snow of the pitch during the day to allow the re-arranged tie to go ahead. Charlie Nicholas rattled the stanchion with an early free-kick and Tommy Harrison made it 2-0 soon after with a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Heavy Dark Blues’ pressure was then endured and a goal lost before Eddie Annand clinched the match in fine style.

2. Clyde 1 v 4 Rangers (Scottish Cup 4th Round, 15.02.96)
Who will ever forget that goal? 53 minutes on the clock and the scoreline is still 0-0. Tommy Harrison picks up the ball at Clyde’s corner flag, and plays a one-two with Martin O’Neil. Harrison gives the ball to Nicholas, who plays it inside and the ball again returns to Harrison, now striding forward. He beats a couple of men, and plays the ball wide to Nicholas once more. Nicholas looks up, and picks out Ian Angus in the box. As soon as the ball strikes his head, the Main Stand is on its feet and wild celebrations follow as Andy Goram is left helpless. Soon after, Keith Knox missed a glorious chance to make it 2-0 and a late onslaught killed our hopes.

3. Clyde 3 v 1 St.Mirren (Scottish Cup 3rd Round, 25.01.97)
A 30 yard screamer by Stephen McInulty gave us a half-time lead against the then superior First Division opponents. Ricky Gillies equalised before Clyde stormed back and won the tie thanks to goals from Paul Brownlie and Andy Gibson.

4. Clyde 4 v 1 Inverness (Second Division, 26.09.98)
After a bright start under the new management team of Ronnie Macdonald and Allan Maitland, results leading up to the match had been worryingly indifferent. Three goals in an incredible last 5 minutes of the first half by Grant, Convery and McCusker eased everybody’s fears and confirmed that Clyde were on the up at last. John Barrett scored the second half clincher after Caley pulled a goal back.

5. Clyde 2 v 0 Partick (Second Division, 11.09.99)
Our first home victory over The Jags since 1990/91. Martin McLauchlan was credited with getting a slight touch on Brian Carrigan’s free-kick as Clyde took a first half lead. A sensational Andy McClay goal with 15 minutes left to play sealed the win and is what that particular derby encounter is best remembered for.

6. Clyde 4 v 1 Arbroath (Second Division, 29.04.00)
Around 1800 Clyde fans turned up to see the Second Division trophy being held aloft – the first ever at the stadium. Goals from Cranmer (2), Keogh and McCusker completed a fitting end to a memorable campaign and set up a day of celebration that was a long time in coming.

7. Clyde 3 v 1 Falkirk (First Division, 05.08.00)
Our return to the First Division couldn’t have been more dramatic. Clyde ended up a goal down in a first half full of nerves but a Wolves youngster called Adam Proudlock introduced himself to Scottish football by equalising on the stroke of half-time. Two more goals from the Englishman in the second period made him hot property instantly and gave us a perfect start to life in a higher league. Alex Totten claimed afterwards that his side had been bullied by a “big, strong” team to ensure a new rivalry was formed.

8. Clyde 4 v 2 Falkirk (First Division, 24.01.04)
2-0 down at half-time and hopes of a win were all but gone. An amazing and pulsating comeback then ensued. Marshall scored from 25 yards, Harty slammed the ball into the corner after a scramble, McLaughlin headed expertly into the top corner and Keogh tapped in to complete the turnaround. Red cards, fights, touchline incidents and a superb atmosphere all added to the entertainment.
