Clyde Offered Maradona
The headline above IS correct – Clyde have been offered Napoli prodigy Diego Maradona on loan, son of the footballing legend by the same name.
TV company TWS have contacted Clyde about taking him on loan to allow him to develop away from the Italian press; whilst making a documentary on his early career.
Diego Armando Maradona Junior, 16, made his debut for Napoli in a top youth tournament recently and received rave reviews. Diego Senior (who only recognised the youngster was his son after a court case in 1993) was delighted with the brief 10 minute introduction, commenting:-
“It is one of the most important days in my life. I am sure he’ll become a star.”
Since that match in February, the press coverage in Naples – where the public generally regard him as royalty – has been incredibly intense hence this attempt to move him temporarily. Obviously not fazed by his background, he recently astutely said:-
“My surname is never a burden, but always an inspiration.”
This is surely an exciting opportunity for Clyde FC, which would open up countless possibilities off the park and could change the club massively. Alan Kernaghan said today:-
“There’s a lot to consider, and the club is currently thinking it over. We would have to see what financial benefits came with it, and what commitments Clyde had to maintain.”
