Three Players Out For Cup Clash

Clyde travel to 3rd Division Gretna tomorrow for the much anticipated Scottish Cup 3rd Round tie, but will be without three key players.

John Fraser and Pat Keogh are still struggling with injuries and won’t play, and, as reported earlier this week, Simon Mensing is suspended. On a much more positive note, Mark McLaughlin will feature at some stage for the first time since September.

Billy Reid, Mark Gilhaney and Paul Doyle, of the under-18 side, will also make the journey and may be needed for a slot on the bench due to the Scottish Cup’s under-21 ruling.

Manager Alan Kernaghan was looking forward to his first ever Scottish Cup game as a gaffer:-

“I hope it’s the first of many,” he told the website today. “We’re not nervous at all but will have the usual apprehension before kick-off, although no more than any other game.”

“It’s important to start well, come out the traps quickly and maintain a high tempo throughout. If we approach the match in the correct manner then we’ll be firm favourites to win.”

“We are well aware of the rewards the next round could bring so it’s a big game for the club, but at the moment tomorrow’s game is the only thing in our minds.”

Anything up to 800 Bully Wee fans could travel to the border, and will be hoping former favourites David Wylie and Keith Knox have an off day if they are involved.

Meanwhile, if you are driving near Broadwood tomorrow morning, prepare to be dazzled by Jack Ross’s gleaming Audi, which received a “full valet” this afternoon at the Stadium in front of The Sun’s cameras. Pictures shown courtesy of Kenny Ramsay from the paper.
