Willie Falconer Signs From Grimsby
Alan Kernaghan made his first summer signing this morning, bringing experienced striker / sweeper Willie Falconer to Clyde on a free transfer from Grimsby Town.
Falconer, now 36, made a name for himself at Aberdeen in the 80’s and he then made a £300,000 move to Watford. Spells at Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday and Celtic followed before he ended up at Motherwell in 1996.
A couple of seasons later he went to Dundee and had a relatively successful three years there. After a short spell at Clydebank, he signed for St.Johnstone last season but moved to Grimsby Town in March.
AK had left St.Johnstone before Falconer got there, but the two were at Middlesbrough together between ’91 and ’93. Willie’s contract at Grimsby had expired and Alan decided to snap him up on a one year deal.
A tall forward who has played at the back in recent years, he may not be an out and out goalscorer but a creator for others. Where do you think Alan will play him? Is it a good signing? Talk about it on the Message Boards…
