Full Time Under 18’S Squad
Head of Youth Development, John Bean, and Assistant manager, Billy Reid, have spoken of their plans for the Under 18’s squad for next season. The squad will primarily be coached by Billy and he will be ably assisted by experienced professionals Andy Millen and Paul Kane. Alan Kernaghan will also be keeping a close eye on the players and their development. Whilst the club will not be joining the league set-up Billy was keen to point that they will have matches on a regular basis throughout the season. “We felt that the boys would progress by playing against some of the best academy set ups in Britain. We will be taking them all over the country to play against these teams. They are a very young squad with many of them still 16 but they will develop and go on to be the future of the club. Most of them have developed through the youth set-up at Clyde from Under 12’s. We look forward to when they will be playing in the first team.”
The squad will be off to Germany in August. As part of a Europen Exchange project, organised in conjunction with Cumbernauld College, they will be spending six weeks at Bundesliga club Hansa Rostock. There they will be looking at the training regime operated at a successful European club as well as looking at things like the diet and habits adopted there. John Bean has been instrumental in organising the trip and has also achieved European funding for the team. John told us, ” Clyde are in at the start of something very big. We have been invited over by Hansa as have some other clubs. But Clyde are at the forefront of the project. Whilst there we hope to have games against the youth teams from clubs like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund”
The squad is John Baird, Grant Chisolm, Charles Clark, Paul Doyle, Mark Gilhaney, Mark Gourlay, Robert Halliday, Graeme McCracken, Kevin McGlinchey, Sean McGuire, Mark McIlroy, Liam Flaming, William Reid and Christopher Sloman.
