The Bully Wee fell to their first William Hill League 2 defeat on the road since the opening day of the season as they let a lead slip to Spartans this afternoon.

Darren Young made one change to the side from last Saturday’s match at Forfar, with Kyle Connell coming in for the injured Scott Williamson (calf). Mouhamed Niang (ankle) and Shay Nevans (shin) also missed out.

The hosts almost took an early lead after a shot stung the hands of Jay Hogarth and the rebound caused a goalmouth scramble, before eventually being cleared to safety.

Craig Howie then headed a free-kick off the line, before setting up a chance for Logan Dunachie a few minutes later, but his shot lacked power and was held by Paddy Martin.

Andy Murdoch tried his luck from 25 yards out and was unlucky to see his vicious effort whistle just over the crossbar, as a tame first half petered out.

The action picked up after the interval and the deadlock was broken in the 57th minute when Murdoch picked up possession and drove forward before feeding Marley Redfern, who in turn crossed for Kyle Connell. The striker’s first touch seemed heavy but a slip from Martin allowed Connell to get to the ball ahead of him and bundle home.

The game was level seven minutes later after Dunachie couldn’t make a proper connection on a clearance, allowing a forward to nip to the loose ball ahead of Tommy Robson and was subsequently fouled. Marc McNulty sent Hogarth the wrong way from the spot.

Connell came close to restoring Clyde’s advantage with a curling effort from the edge of the box, but the decisive goal was scored by the hosts. A long ball down the middle was not dealt with by the centre-backs which allowed McNulty to race through, before squaring for Mark Stowe to smash into the empty net.
