Recap

The Bully Wee’s poor record against The Spartans continued this afternoon as the hosts recorded a comfortable 2-0 win in Edinburgh.

Darren Young made one change to his side with Robbie Hemfrey replacing Jay Kennedy in goals, whilst Craig Howie made his 100th appearance for the club. Scott Williamson was the latest player to miss out through injury, with the total of sidelined players reaching 11.

The opening minutes saw Clyde have a number of corners that were well defended by The Spartans backline.

Good holdup play from Kyle Connell allowed Clyde to break quickly, as Andy Murdoch unleashed Marley Redfern down the left wing. Redfern cut inside and played the ball back to Darren Lyon on the edge of the box, but his shot wasn’t able to beat The Spartans keeper.

Another quick attack saw Redfern and Bradley combine, with the former putting a good ball into the back post. Taylor Sutherland was on hand to strike but was only able to find the side-netting.

Logan Dunachie was caught out in possession by Jamie Dishington, who raced down on the Clyde goal. His shot wasn’t able to beat Hemfrey, who made a smart save with his feet.

The second half began well for Clyde. Good pressing allowed Connell to take a shot from range but it was just off target. Moments later, further relentless pressing allowed Sutherland to get a shot away in the box but it was a tame effort and saved easily.

However, just before the hour mark, a ball was chipped into Henderson at the back post. His shot dragged alone the goal line and hit the opposite post, but was followed up by Cammy Russell to put The Spartans a goal ahead.

Clyde were nearly able to equalise moments later, as a lovely diagonal from Dunachie was collected by Darren Hynes and drilled into the box. Connell was able to beat his man and be the first to the ball, but his shot was put wide.

More smart play from Clyde allowed Redfern a good shooting opportunity in the box. However, Redfern’s shot was well blocked by a Spartans defender.

Finally, ten minutes from time, Dishington was able to double The Spartans lead with a smart finish, ensuring them all three points.
