Recap
The Bully Wee moved into the top slot in the League Two table today, thanks to a fine away victory over East Stirling.
Jim Duffy made one change to the team that defeated Elgin City last week, with Stuart McColm replacing Scott Ferguson in the starting line-up.
Clyde started the match well, with McColm in particular causing problems for The Shire defence with some good deliveries from the left wing. However the first real chance fell to Brian McQueen, but his first time shot from the edge of the box missed the top corner by a few yards.
The Bully Wee continued to look the more threatening side for the majority of the first half, but Michael Bolochoweckyj had a great chance to score for the home side shortly before half-time. A free-kick into Clyde’s box wasn’t cleared and dropped towards Bolochoweckyj near the goalline, but his header somehow missed the target.
The match moved into a very even contest after the break, with clear cut chances limited at either end.
Stefan McCluskey grabbed the vital breakthrough for Clyde after 72 minutes. John Sweeney’s long throw made its way through to the six yard box and McCluskey was the in the right position to stab the ball into the corner of the net.
As the Clyde defence continued to hold firm, substitute Kevin Watt almost put the icing on the cake when he met a late Kieran MacDonald corner. His header was cleared off the line and, as the assistant referee waved away the protests that the ball had actually crossed the line, the rebound was fired just past the post.
The full-time whistle and results elsewhere confirmed The Bully Wee as the new League Two leaders.
