Recap
The Bully Wee picked up a well earned point this evening as they hosted Cove Rangers for the first time.
Danny Lennon made two changes to the side that beat Ayr United in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, with Ewan Otoo and Michael McGlinchey replacing Barry Cuddihy and Lloyd Robertson.
Clyde started brightly and created several chances in the opening minutes. Michael McGlinchey played a lovely through ball to Lewis Jamieson in space behind the Cove defence, and he chipped goalkeeper Stuart McKenzie but the ball ended up just past his post.
McKenzie was then called into action a minute later as he had to stretch to touch a curling effort from Ross Cunningham behind for a corner. Craig Howie then came close from the subsequent set piece, and had another couple of good chances shortly after from similar situations.
The visitors started to grow into the game and Fraser Fyvie sent a teasing free-kick across the face of goal, with a few attackers close to getting on the end of it.
Cove’s best chance of the half came through Rory McAllister after he created space for himself in the box and was able to get a shot away, but David Mitchell was equal to it.
The Bully Wee should have been awarded a spot kick after the interval when a ball into the box was hit by an outstretched elbow of a Cove defender.
Cove took the lead in the 76th minute after a good passing move resulted in Connor Scully curling a left footed effort past Mitchell and into the corner of the net from the edge of the area.
It took Clyde just two minutes to make things level as substitutes Barry Cuddihy and David Goodwillie combined. Cuddihy was the first to have a shot which looked destined to hit the net, but a Cove defender got back to block on the line. The ball however was cleared straight back to Cuddihy, who in turn played in Goodwillie, who made no mistake with his finish.
The match became end-to-end in the closing stages with both teams having chances to take all three points; Kevin Hanratty saw his drive turned round the post by Mitchell, whilst at the other end Goodwillie couldn’t get much power behind an effort that was held by McKenzie.
