Recap

The Bully Wee picked up an impressive three points in League 1 today, following a battling performance and a dramatic injury-time winner by substitute Mark Lamont.

David Mitchell returned to take his place in goal, with Josh Jack and Craig Howie also coming in for Lamont and Matthew Shiels – the latter missing out due to an ankle injury.

Clyde took a 12th minute lead from the penalty spot after David Goodwillie was caught just inside the box by Connor Scully. The Bully Wee captain took the spot kick himself, putting the ball to Cove goalkeeper Stuart McKenzie’s right.

The hosts drew level in the 27th minute when Mitch Megginson was allowed to cut inside the Clyde defence and drove into the box, before placing a shot beyond David Mitchell.

Megginson put Cove Rangers in the lead five minutes later with another fine solo effort. League 1’s top scorer was given time at the edge of the box, and he curled a effort into the top right hand corner of the goal, giving Mitchell no chance.

Danny Lennon tweaked his formation and half-time and introduced Cammy Palmer, who put in an impressive performance as Clyde gained more of a foothold in the second half.

The Bully Wee were back on level terms in the 56th minute after Goodwillie was fouled in the box again. He dusted himself down and fired past McKenzie with an emphatic spot kick.

Ally Love had a shot tipped over the bar by McKenzie minutes later, before the Clyde rearguard had to withstand heavy pressure. Cove played the second half with a strong wind behind them, and delivered several balls into the box from set-pieces, but were unable to find a way past Mitchell.

With time ticking it looked as if Clyde would record their first draw since the opening game of 2020, but there was to be late drama. In the first minute of stoppage time, Love saw his cross intended for Goodwillie blocked by a Cove defender. Palmer picked up the loose ball and squared it for Mark Lamont, who had only been on the pitch for a minute, and he rifled a shot past McKenzie from the edge of the box to give The Bully Wee all three points, and their first League 1 away win since beating Falkirk last October.
