Clyde 1-2 Dunfermline Athletic

Clyde kicked off their pre-season schedule in Hamilton this afternoon, with Championship side Dunfermline Athletic claiming a narrow victory in a well-contested friendly match.

The Bully Wee line-up had a familiar look to it, with many of last season’s cast complemented by a trio of trialists. Summer signing Lewis Lovering made his debut for the club, turning in an impressive performance at left-back.

The match got off to the worst possible start for Clyde, as a cheap loss of possession in midfield was punished by The Pars. Andrew Tod was played in on the left channel and expertly tucked the ball across the starting trialist goalkeeper.

It was 2-0 before long, as slick play down the left side carved the Bully Wee defence open and Zak Rudden finished from the middle of the box after the ball was slid across to him.

Clyde did pull one back shortly afterwards, with a spell of pressure paying off when a corner delivery was kept alive; the ball was played across to Scott Williamson, who volleyed home from close range.

That was to signal the end of the day’s goalscoring action, as both sides made rafts of substitutions in the second half. Some strong defending from Clyde kept the scoreline down after the break, whilst the multitude of changes in the forward areas meant that attacking fluency was difficult to come by.
