Rangers B 3-4 Clyde

The Bully Wee booked their place in the Glasgow Cup Final for the first time since 1989 after defeating Rangers B in a thrilling seven-goal encounter at the Rangers Training Centre.

Darren Young made seven changes to Saturday’s side, with Liam Scullion making his long-awaited return from injury, coming off the bench for the final 16 minutes to make his first appearance since July.

Clyde made a perfect start, taking an early lead through Barry Cuddihy. The captain for the evening picked up possession outside the box and struck towards goal, his effort taking a slight deflection on its way past Alfie Halliwell. Rangers responded in style, however, as Zebedee Lawson cut in from the right and fired an unstoppable effort from distance that crashed in off the underside of the bar.

The Bully Wee regained the advantage midway through the half when Nathan Cannon drove forward and unleashed a strike from range. Halliwell managed to get a hand to it, but couldn’t keep it out as the ball bounced over the line. The hosts levelled again before the interval, Arran Kerr looping a high finish over Brian Kinnear after working space inside the box.

Both goalkeepers were then called into action before the break, with Kinnear producing an excellent one-on-one stop, while Halliwell denied Lennon Connolly with a sharp save at the other end from his wicked strike.

The second half continued at a relentless pace, but this time it was Clyde who took control. Cannon, Connolly and Scott Williamson all went close as the visitors pushed for a third, and it arrived through Kyle Connell, whose free-kick from the edge of the box clipped the post on its way in to restore Clyde’s lead for the third time on the night.

Rangers responded almost immediately to make it 3-3, Lewis Stewart turning home from close range at the back post, but Clyde refused to be denied. The Bully Wee’s attacking intent was rewarded with what proved to be the decisive goal, as Connell’s long throw was met by Williamson, who nodded home from close range.

Clyde continued to press for more, with Redfern and Connolly both going close, while Rangers threatened in the closing stages. However, Kinnear stood firm to preserve the advantage and secure Clyde’s place in the Final.

The Bully Wee will now face Celtic B, who defeated Partick Thistle 4-1 in the other semi-final this evening. Full details for the Final will be confirmed in due course.
