Stepford Football Centre

Clyde FC Community Foundation can announce that it has been in talks which may see the charity and Clyde Football Club finally seal their planned return to Glasgow.

Easterhouse-based charity FARE have announced that Stepford Football Centre, which it currently leases from Glasgow City Council, will imminently become available for new custodians. Since summer 2025, we have held a series of exploratory discussions with FARE’s executive and Trustees regarding the centre. These have been with a view to demonstrating our suitability – in the event of the lease becoming available – to continue and expand the provision that their organisation has developed since acquiring the use of the site.

Additionally, we have maintained contact with the landlord, Glasgow City Council, throughout these talks and, on the back of this formal initiation of a process by FARE Scotland, we will quickly begin reaching out to the various local stakeholders for whom this is a highly valued facility. Our assurance to all interested parties is that we would seek to support their continued use of an enhanced facility to serve the communities of the East End of Glasgow.

The site, located on Edinburgh Road, has undergone transformational change in recent years and Clyde FC Community Foundation are no strangers to it, operating holiday camps, children’s classes and some youth football matches at Stepford. If this can be steered to a successful outcome, our proposal will be to construct a compact stadium around the current full-size pitch, which will remain accessible to the community, with no alteration made to the other pitches at the facility.

Talks with both FARE and with the local authority have been constructive and encouraging to date, and are ongoing. We are optimistic that this site would represent an excellent outcome for the Clyde FC Community Foundation and Clyde Football Club and, crucially, we are confident that what we could bring to it represents an excellent opportunity for the Stepford Football Centre, its stakeholders and the surrounding communities.
