Festive Friends
The Clyde FC Community Foundation has once again taken part in the SPFL Trust’s Festive Friends programme, continuing its work to support older and socially isolated people within the local community during the festive period.
The Festive Friends programme, delivered by the SPFL Trust, brings together football clubs across Scotland to ensure that no one feels forgotten at Christmas. The initiative focuses on tackling loneliness by providing festive hampers and creating opportunities for social connection.
This year, the Clyde FC Community Foundation distributed 30 festive hampers in partnership with Hamilton District Foodbank. The hampers were delivered to older people and individuals at risk of social isolation, helping to spread festive cheer and provide comfort at what can be a difficult time of year.
Each hamper included a range of items such as games, mince pies, chocolates, candles, hand warmers, and other festive treats. In addition, recipients received a voucher for a free ticket to a future home match at Clyde Football Club, offering the chance to attend a match and stay connected with the club beyond the festive period.
Charity Development Manager Alan White said:
“While for many of us, Christmas is a time for looking forward to spending time with family, this isn’t the case for others in our communities. We are delighted to be supporting the SPFL Trust’s Festive Friends programme and distributing 30 hampers filled with festive cheer to those at risk of social isolation this Christmas in partnership with Hamilton District Foodbank who the Clyde FC supporters so generously supported last month. Football clubs have deep reach into communities and we are always keen to do what we can in collaboration with Clyde FC to support those in need. In addition to providing a number of the gifts in the hampers, the club also provided vouchers for those receiving them to attend a future home match which hopefully will ensure our ability to further support individuals in 2026.”
By working closely with Hamilton District Foodbank, the Foundation was able to ensure that those receiving the hampers had their essential needs met, allowing the focus to be placed on spreading as much festive joy as possible. The initiative also builds on the generosity shown by Clyde supporters earlier in the season, whose donations helped support the foodbank’s vital work.
The Clyde FC Community Foundation would like to thank the SPFL Trust, Hamilton District Foodbank, and everyone involved in making this year’s Festive Friends programme a success. The Foundation remains committed to supporting local people and strengthening community connections throughout the year.
