Clyde 1-2 Stirling Albion
Clyde’s long unbeaten League 2 run came to an end today as Stirling Albion took all three points from the Hamilton Community Stadium.
Darren Young made two enforced changes to the side from last Saturday’s victory in Edinburgh, with Barry Cuddihy and Sam Campbell coming in for the injured Darren Hynes and suspended Logan Dunachie.
Marley Redfern carved out an early opportunity for Sam Campbell with a teasing cross into the box. The unmarked defender got his head onto it but couldn’t direct it on target with the goal at his mercy.
The visitors took the lead midway through the first half when Corey Thomson got in behind the Clyde defence and slotted beyond Jay Hogarth.
Clear cut chances were at a premium but Stirling’s lead was almost doubled in the second half when Craig Howie overhit a pass back to Hogarth, with the ball fortunately ended on the right side of the post.
At the other end James Hilton carved out an opportunity in the box and drove a shot on target but Derek Gaston was equal to it.
With 12 minutes remaining Stirling were awarded a penalty after Russell McLean was fouled by Sam Campbell. McLean dusted himself down and sent Hogarth the wrong way.
Hilton had another chance with time running out, meeting Ross Lyon’s whipped cross from close range but he placed the header wide.
Hilton did get on the scoresheet in stoppage time from the penalty spot after Taylor Sutherland was clipped whilst driving into the box, but it would be a case of too little too late, as Clyde suffered their first league defeat since August.
