Darren Reflects On Alloa Draw

Darren Young spoke to the club’s media team following the end-to-end draw against Alloa Athletic.

“I was delighted with the goals that we scored and the number of chances we created, 22 shots in total, especially considering we went into the game missing nine players through a combination of injury, illness, suspension and personal reasons. To put on a performance like that under those circumstances was outstanding and I’m very proud of every one of the players.

“Of course I was frustrated that we couldn’t win the game but Alloa will probably feel the same. We had a couple of opportunities when we were 1-0 up and the same at 4-3 to stretch the lead. The guys that came into the side did really well; Shay took his chance with a start, Ross Lyon and Marley coming back from injury, Kyle Fleming playing in midfield then switching to right-back. Rico Quitongo, who’s been training with us recently, played as a trialist again and put in a shift. Robbie Leitch played well in the centre of the park too and Scott Williamson is on fire at the moment, his couple of goals will really give me food for thought and it shows the competition in the team.

“It was great to see Taylor get another goal too, while at the other end I thought Logan was outstanding. Darren Hynes played well in an unfamiliar position and it was good to see Brian get more valuable game time under his belt, we had to throw it together a bit from a defensive point of view with the number of players missing but they stood up against a strong opponent. I know Alloa made a few changes too but they’re a good League 1 team and they had a lot of quality, especially up front.

“We look forward to a big game against Spartans on Saturday now and a lot of the guys tonight have put themselves in a good position when it comes to choosing the team. They’ve got a never say die attitude and you can see they are fighting and working for each other. Overall I’m really pleased with how the night unfolded.”
