Clyde 2-1 East Fife

Clyde overcame League 1 side East Fife in the KDM Evolution Trophy with a well deserved win under the floodlights at the Hamilton Community Stadium this evening

Darren Young made eight changes to his side, including former Bully Wee man Rico Quitongo as a trialist.

Clyde dominated the opening exchanges and created with Scott Williamson and Robbie Leitch testing Matty Rollo in the East Fife goal.

It wasn’t long until the two combined to open the scoring after 17 minutes. A free-kick floated into the box was met by Williamson, with Leitch then keeping it in play and sending it back into the six-yard box where Williamson was on hand to nod into the net.

Clyde continued to test the East Fife defence for the remainder of the first half with Taylor Sutherland and Williamson having efforts but were unable to beat Rollo.

The visitors started to grow into the game towards the interval and continued into the second half without seriously testing Brian Kinnear until a Michael McKenna free-kick midway through the half.

The Bully Wee doubled their advantage five minutes from time when James Hilton sent Williamson one-on-one with Rollo. The ‘keeper made a brave save at his feet and the ball fell to Brian Easton, but his clearance cannoned off Marley Redfern and bounced off the bar, before falling kindly for the winger to head home past Andy Munro on the line.

The Fifers gave themselves a lifeline in the last minute when ex-Clyde striker Robert Jones was played into the box and he drove a powerful shot across Kinnear and into the corner of the net, but Clyde held on to make it four wins on the bounce.
