Alan Rennie

All at the club were deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of devoted Clyde supporter Alan Rennie.

Alan’s journey with The Bully Wee began during the ground-sharing days at Firhill and Douglas Park, continuing through to his hometown of Cumbernauld and Broadwood. Alongside Tony McNulty and the late Jack Ferguson, Alan played a key role in establishing a joint Kirkintilloch and Cumbernauld supporters’ bus, which ran for a few seasons.

He was a familiar and friendly presence at Broadwood, known for his love of banter and camaraderie. The late Davie Paterson was a particularly close friend, as were fellow Clyde fans Jim McGuigan, Liz and Iain Fell, David Halliday, and Craig Winning.

Alan was a vibrant character with a generous heart. He regularly sponsored players’ shirts and, on one occasion, kindly covered the cost of the team bus for a rescheduled trip to Elgin. Always eager to support the club financially, he was a frequent visitor to the club shop—run by his good friends Ian and Laura—where he delighted in purchasing Clyde memorabilia. It was his way of giving back to his club.

The “junior revolution” era held a special place in Alan’s heart, as did the on-field success that followed. He also fondly remembered the pre-season trips to the Oban tournament. If asked to name his favourite Clyde match, he’d proudly recall the 6–1 triumph over Falkirk at Brockville, when both Brian Carrigan and Leigh Hinds scored hat-tricks.

Alan shared a warm rapport with many players over the years, none more so than Paddy Keogh, who quickly became a firm favourite.

In recent years, Alan’s attendance at matches declined, but his wife Margaret and their sons, Alan and Andrew, have continued the Rennie tradition and remain regulars at games.

Beyond football, Alan was a community-minded man, always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbours in times of need—a further true reflection of his kind-hearted nature.

Alan’s funeral service will take place tomorrow, 18th August, at Falkirk Crematorium at 10:45am. All who wish to pay their respects are warmly invited. Afterwards, friends and family are welcome to gather at the British Legion, South Muirhead Road, Cumbernauld, from 12 noon.

The thoughts and condolences of everyone at the club are with Alan’s family and friends at this sad time.
