PREVIEW: The Spartans v Clyde

Clyde travel to the capital tomorrow afternoon for the second time in a fortnight to face The Spartans as the season enters the final three weeks.

Darren Young expects to have a similar squad to last week with a number of players still sidelined through injury, and Ross Lyon serving the second and final game of his suspension.

The Bully Wee have confirmed their league safety and will be aiming for a return to winning ways which could see them leapfrog Stranraer into seventh, if the Blues lose to Edinburgh City. However, a third straight defeat against Spartans combined with a Forfar win and they could drop to ninth.

Meanwhile, Douglas Samuel’s men are amid a three club battle for the final promotion play-off spot. The Ainslie Park club are sixth, three points behind fourth and know that a victory, coupled with defeats for Elgin and Stirling could see them sneak into the top four on goal difference heading into the penultimate day. Whereas a first defeat against Clyde since 1999 and an Elgin win would leave them six points adrift and all but end their playoff hopes.

The last meeting in Hamilton resulted in victory for Spartans with goals from Hamish Ritchie and Ayrton Sonkur either side of the interval. They also secured three points in the previous match in Edinburgh which ended in a 3-2 thriller. It was a share of the spoils in the first meeting of the season last October with Mark Stowe’s first half opener followed by Martin Rennie’s equaliser.

Clyde have won one, drawn five and lost four of ten matches played and will be hoping to end their 26 year wait for victory against The Spartans.
