Clyde 3-1 East Fife
Clyde earned their first William Hill League 2 win since August and of Darren Young’s tenure as manager with victory over East Fife at New Douglas Park.
Young made two changes to his Clyde side with Liam Scullion and Martin Rennie returning to the starting lineup in favour of Logan Dunachie and Robbie Leitch.
In the sixth minute, Jordan Allan picked up the ball outside the box and muscled his way through, but an opposition defender cleared the danger. Four minutes later, the Fifers were handed a free kick after Munro was fouled inside the box, but Peggie’s effort soared over the bar.
The Bully Wee went agonisingly close to opening the scoring in the 12th minute. Redfern slotted the ball to Houston on the right wing, only for it to find its way back to the forward in the centre of the box, but he blasted his volley wide.
However, the hosts broke the deadlock with 21 minutes on the clock. McKay’s throw evaded everyone but Allan in the centre of the box. His initial shot was blocked, however the striker pounced on the loose ball to fire the rebound beyond McFarlane from close-range.
As the match reached the half hour mark, Walker was offered space on the outskirts of the box, but his effort flew over the woodwork, while Shepherd tried his luck inside the box after cottoning onto Peggie’s cross but Hemfrey collected with ease.
In the final minute of the first half, the visitors were seeking an equaliser with Shepherd’s shot looking likely to sneak past a crammed box and into the net, only for an alert Hamilton to swiftly clear from the white line.
Clyde doubled their advantage five minutes into the second period, courtesy of Allan. A mix up at the back allowed the unmarked striker to secure his brace by sprinting down the box and firing the ball past McFarlane.
In the 62nd minute, McManus sent the ball across the box to Docherty, but it flew straight at Hemfrey while McFarlane struck out a palm to deny Allan’s effort which prevented Leitch’s attempt to head it goalwards.
With 20 minutes remaining, the Fifers attempted to half Clyde’s lead but composure in the final third was continuing to elude them with Laaref sending his shot wide.
In the 80th minute, the Bully Wee added a third as Scullion plucked out the loose ball outside the box to unleash a powerful strike which crashed into the roof of the net.
As the clock entered injury time, the Fifers pulled a late goal back as Shepherd caught the end of a corner kick to slot the ball into the bottom right corner.
