Queen of the South 1-3 Clyde
The Bully Wee kicked off their 2024-25 pre-season schedule with an impressive performance and result over League 1 side Queen of the South at Palmerston Park.
Ian McCall gave starting places to five of his new summer recruits, with Darren Lyon also involved from the bench.
Clyde opened the scoring on the 17th minute after a Queens’ corner was cleared to midway inside the Clyde half. Kyle Connell did well to hold the ball up before playing in Marley Redfern, who ran from inside his own half before slotting beyond Ross Stewart.
The hosts were level ten minutes later when the unmarked Brennan Dickenson headed home a corner from close range.
Clyde restored their advantage two minutes before the interval after Jordan Houston’s low cross from the right was missed by a home defender, which allowed Connell to gather and lash the ball into the net from a tight angle.
The Bully Wee increased their lead in the last minute of the half, with Redfern showing good footwork and skill on the left before crossing for Martin Rennie, who guided a header into the net via the inside of the post.
Redfern almost added another within a minute of the restart after connecting with Houston’s low cross but Stewart made a fine reflex save to deny him. Connell also saw his header come back off the crossbar midway through the second period.
