Denis Connaghan

The club was saddened to learn of the passing of former player Denis Connaghan. Denis began his career with Celtic before joining St Mirren. After an impressive few years in Paisley Denis returned to Celtic Park where he spent six further seasons.

Denis later played for Morton and joined Clyde in the summer of 1979. He started his Bully Wee career with back-to-back clean sheets against Raith Rovers and Clydebank before eventually conceding in a Glasgow Cup tie against his old club Celtic, though he gained another shutout in the next match against Ayr United. This makes Denis the only ‘keeper in the history of the club to keep clean sheets in each of his first three league appearances.

Denis made a total of 20 appearances for Clyde in the first half of the campaign keeping four clean sheets, before Dave McWilliams took over the number 1 jersey for the remainder of the season.

The thoughts and condolences from all at the club are with Denis’ friends and family at this sad time.
