Clyde 0-2 Aberdeen
Clyde exited the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup in the fourth round this evening at the hands of Aberdeen at New Douglas Park.
Erik Sula returned from injury while Stuart Carswell and Darren Hynes were welcomed back into the squad as Ian McCall made three changes from last Saturday’s draw to East Fife. Lee Hamilton and Robbie Leitch were cup tied whilst Barry Cuddihy missed out through injury.
Opportunities for both teams were at a minimum during the first quarter of the match. Leighton Clarkson came agonisingly close with a volley in the 16th minute after connecting onto a corner, but his effort was wide.
The Bully Wee were a hair width away from breaking the deadlock in the 21st minute. Connor Young retrieved the ball at the edge of the box and arrowed a low-angled shot at goal, which bypassed Roos only to rattle the woodwork.
As the first half progressed, Miovski failed to connect onto a pass across the goalmouth, however, he rectified that with the opening goal, shortly after the half hour mark. Devlin knocked the ball into the North Macedonian’s path enabling him to fire a low strike beyond Leighfield to nestle in the bottom corner.
Miovski attempted to add to his tally in the penultimate minute as he pounced onto the ball to create an opportunity from the inside of the box, but his effort could only bruise the top of the bar, before flying over.
The visitor’s execution in the box continued to elude them in the second period as Clarkson’s effort from the far edge of the box careered wide, before they doubled their advantage in the 57th minute. Devlin turned provider as he cottoned onto Polvara’s pass to defy the ‘keeper and stab a powerful strike into the net.
As the clock ticked past the hour, Kian Leslie managed to muster a rare break for the hosts as he drove up the pitch, however, The Dons remained defensively sharp with Shinnie calmly regaining possession.
With 15 minutes remaining, Clyde spurned successive chances to usurp the visitor’s defence. The ball was flung at Stevenson’s feet at the edge of the box from a high-arching cross, only for his effort to be blocked, before Sula’s attempt from the resulting corner was blasted over the bar.
As the match made an arguably subdued conclusion, Duk tried his luck for the Dons, however, he misjudged the power of his cross and the ball flew harmlessly wide.
