Paul Watchman
All at the club were saddened to learn of the passing of former player Paul Watchman earlier this month.
Paul was a youth player with Drumchapel Amateurs before signing for Dunfermline Athletic in his teens. He took a step back from the senior game to concentrate on his studies, studying law at the Universities of Strathclyde and Glasgow.
Paul joined The Bully Wee in August 1975 and made his debut coming off the bench in a Scottish Cup tie against Hearts the following January, in a creditable 2-2 draw at Tynecastle. He went on to make two further appearances, one against his former club Dunfermline, before leaving Shawfield in the summer.
Paul continued to play for Stonehouse Violet, Baillieston and Carnoustie Panmure in the Juniors whilst excelling in his professional life as a lawyer. He was universally recognised as one of the world’s foremost lawyers on Climate Change, ESG, Business & Human Rights and Sustainable Finance, and had a long association with the United Nations. A tribute to Paul’s law career can be read here.
The thoughts and condolences of all at the club are with Paul’s family and friends at this sad time.
