Peterhead 1-1 Clyde
The Bully Wee took a point from Balmoor today with Cameron Salkeld levelling the scores in the second minute of injury time, after Ryan Mullen had earlier pulled off a superb save from a Peterhead penalty.
Jim Duffy stuck with the same side that won against FC Edinburgh last Saturday, with Salkeld and Paul Kennedy returning to the squad on the bench.
The first chance fell the way of Clyde when Barry Cuddihy picked out Kyle Doherty with a long diagonal. He cut into the box and saw his effort deflected behind for a corner, from which Cuddihy had a snapshot which deflected into the hands of Stuart McKenzie.
At the other end Ryan Mullen reacted well to tip a header from Josh Oyinsan which deflected off Erik Sula’s head onto the bar then over.
Jason Brown then curled a free-kick on target which Mullen saved, before his brother opened the scoring two minutes later. Jordon Brown got in behind the Clyde defence and controlled a ball over the top, before firing beyond Mullen.
Oyinsan had another chance just before the interval when he met a cross with his head, but again Mullen reacted well to stretch and tip it behind.
Martin Rennie had a good chance to level the scores within a minute of the restart when he got a pass into his feet in the box and turned, but his low shot went just past the post.
The Blue Toon were awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute when referee Calum Scott deemed Jon Craig fouled an opponent, though the award looked soft. Kieran Shanks stepped up to the spot and sent the ball to Mullen’s left, but the ‘keeper made a fantastic save to keep it out.
As the game entered the final ten minutes Salkeld hit the ball on the volley but it went narrowly wide, whilst Kurtis Roberts also saw an effort go over the bar.
As the clock ticked into the 92nd minute, Ross Lyon took a long throw which Erik Sula knocked down to Salkeld, and the midfielder took aim, with his shot clipping the inside of the post and hitting the net to give The Bully Wee a deserved and vital point in the race to avoid bottom place.
