Airdrieonians 1-0 Clyde

The Bully Wee’s long winless run continued in Airdrie this afternoon, after a combination of missed chances and slack play which led to the Diamonds’ goal.

Jim Duffy handed new loan signing Ryan McGeever a debut and Darren Hynes returned to the starting XI, with Brian McLean and Jon Craig dropping to the bench.

Clyde started on the front foot and Ross Cunningham forced Joshua Rae into a sprawling save in the early stages, with the Airdrie ‘keeper reacting quickly to save Cameron Salkeld’s rebound as well.

Airdrie got in behind the Clyde defence but Barry Cuddihy was able to clear the danger ahead of any home attacker, and at the other end Martin Rennie held the ball up well before unleashing a blistering shot on target which Aaron Taylor-Sinclair blocked with his face, and required treatment due to the force of the strike.

Salkeld then had a chance after dispossessing Rhys McCabe in the Airdrie box and also hit a venemous shot which beat Rae, but it crashed off the underside of the crossbar and bounced away from goal.

Calum Gallagher tried his luck for Airdrie from the edge of the box but his effort went over the bar, and Rennie picked out Kyle Doherty with an inch perfect cross but the striker couldn’t find the target with his header from close range.

The Diamonds took the lead four minutes after the restart when Darren Hynes was dispossessed in midfield by Charlie Telfer, who drove forward and drilled the ball beyond Neil Parry.

Kurtis Roberts showed great determination to get to the by-line as Clyde searched for an equaliser and cut the ball back for Cunningham, but he blazed his effort over the bar.

The Bully Wee continued to create openings in the closing ten minutes but Doherty, McDonald and Cunningham all passed up good opportunities as the points remained in Airdrie.
