Douglas Middleton

All at the club were saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong fan Douglas Middleton on Tuesday morning.

Douglas attended his first Clyde game with his dad at Shawfield in 1947 and quickly became hooked on The Bully Wee. He watched the club win the Scottish Cup in 1955 and 1958 and play in European competition against RC Lens in 1960. His favourite players were Harry Haddock and Archie Robertson.

In the 1970s Douglas was instrumental in transforming and modernising The Clyde View matchday programme, earning more commercial income for the club as a result and being the catalyst for the award-winning programme still in production today.

Douglas also passed on the Clyde bug to his son David, and still attended matches at Broadwood until ill health in recent years prevented him from cheering on The Bully Wee in person.

The thoughts and condolences from all at the club go to David and the rest of Douglas’ family and friends at this sad time.
