Jim Boyd
All at the club were deeply saddened by the passing of former player Jim Boyd on Monday.
Jim had two spells with the club, firstly from 1974 to 1978, which concluded with the team winning the Second Division Championship, then from 1979 to 1981.
Jim had previously been with Crystal Palace before joining Clyde, and his displays during the successful 1977/78 Second Division Championship season – where he only missed one game all season – earned him a £25000 transfer to Motherwell. It didn’t work out for Jim at Fir Park, so a season later he found himself back at Shawfield.
Former teammate and Hall of Fame member Neil Hood added this tribute:-
“I am sure everybody that knew Jim as a player or a friend would agree that “Bydie” was a great guy and will be sorely missed by all.
“I was fortunate enough to play with him in the best Clyde team I ever played in, and he never let that great team down. He was a valuable team player, with a great left foot, and he was brilliant in the air for his height due to his jump timing combined with his heading ability.”
All at the club would like to pass on their condolences to Jim’s family and friends at this sad time, and especially to another former player and Jim’s lifelong friend, Gerry McCabe.
