Montrose 2-1 Clyde

The Bully Wee fell to their first cinch League 1 defeat of the season in Montrose this afternoon, with The Gable Endies recording a 2-1 victory.

Danny Lennon made two changes to his side, with Nathan Nyamsi Hendji coming in for the injured Paul Kennedy, and Jordan Allan replacing Olly McDonald.

The first chance of the day fell the way of the hosts in the opening stages when Graham Webster’s cross from touchline drifted towards goal and Neil Parry had to tip it over the bar.

Ross Cunningham then got a shot on target up the other end, but his left footed drive from outside the box was held by Ross Sinclair.

Montrose took the lead in the 28th minute when Rory McAllister met a cross into the box and got between Brian McLean and Peter Grant to head past Parry from close range.

Clyde equalised three minutes after the interval when Ray Grant won possession on the edge of his own box and fed Mo Gomis, who carried the ball up field. He in turn played in Jordan Allan, who drove into the box, cut back and slotted a left footed effort beyond Sinclair into the corner of the net.

The Gable Endies were back in front though less than three minutes later when Kerr Waddell powered home a header from a corner.

Parry then had to be at his best again to get down low to turn behind a vicious Lewis Milne strike, then Matty Allan narrowly headed over from the resulting corner.

Montrose should have added to their lead following a counter attack with Craig Johnston squaring the ball across the six-yard box for Craig Brown to tap into an empty net but Euan Cameron made a great recovery tackle to deny him.

Substitute Andy Rodden then created a chance out of nothing after stabbing a cleared corner back into the box, with the ball looping up and dipping just underneath the crossbar, but Sinclair managed to backtrack and tip it over.

Clyde had a golden opportunity to equalise in stoppage time when Ray Grant’s free-kick from deep made it’s way to his unmarked brother in the box, but he couldn’t keep his volley down and it sailed over Sinclair’s bar.
