PREVIEW: Queen of the South v Clyde

Clyde kick off the 2022-23 cinch League 1 season tomorrow with a trip to face Queen of the South.

Queen’s were relegated from the Championship last season, and will be looking to bounce back at the first attempt.

Our last trip to Palmerston ended in a 3-0 defeat in 2018, with Stephen Dobbie scoring a hat trick in the Premier Sports Cup. Our last visit on league duty was back in 2009.

Danny Lennon will have the same squad of players to choose from that faced Falkirk, with Steven Thicot still awaiting a work permit.

The Clyde manager spoke to the official website ahead of the league opener:

“It’s going to be a tough challenge being in what looks like the most competitive league in the SPFL this season with the quality of teams in it. We’re looking forward to the challenge, it’s a marathon and we want to start it well and keep a level of consistency throughout.

“I think the players have gelled together well in a short period of time. We added new players in the week leading up to the Premier Sports Cup which meant we had to use the games as training sessions as well as competitive games to get players up to scratch. We suffered with that a bit which is natural, but within the group games there were good performances. Even the Bonnyrigg game, which people won’t be happy with as we lost, I saw some pleasing things. Could we have done more? Absolutely, but we saw improvements which we keep seeing the more the players play together.

“Each game will be difficult home and away, and that’s why it’s important we keep some momentum going throughout the campaign.

“A manager will never sit and say they’re not looking for players, but we are pleased with how we have spent our budget. We have to look at the players available and what we can afford. I’m happy with the identifying and the recruiting of our first choices, we have added very well to get the mix of youth and experience and I think the squad is coming together nicely.”
