Broadwood XI Announced

The club can announce the results of the Broadwood XI as voted for by supporters recently. Supporters were tasked with voting for who they thought were the best players to pull on the Clyde shirt during the Broadwood years. Any player who played a competitive match for The Bully Wee in this time was eligible for selection.

The players with the most votes in each position were:-

  • Goalkeeper – Bryn Halliwell – 2000-2005 & 2011 – 189 appearances, 60 clean sheets
  • Right-back – Jack Ross – 1999-2004 – 185 appearances, 13 goals
  • Centre-back – Keith Knox – 1988-1997 – 363 appearances, 18 goals
  • Centre-back – Mark McLaughlin – 1999-2004 & 2015-2016 – 161 appearances, 20 goals
  • Left-back – Eddie Malone – 2004-2007 – 93 apperances, 3 goals
  • Midfielder – Craig Bryson – 2003-2007 – 114 appearances, 12 goals
  • Midfielder – Andy McClay – 1998-2003 – 82 appearances, 4 goals
  • Midfielder – Richie McCusker – 1998-2002 – 87 appearances, 17 goals
  • Forward – Brian Carrigan – 1996-2000 & 2002 – 135 appearances, 37 goals
  • Forward – David Goodwillie – 2017-2022 – 176 appearances, 109 goals
  • Forward – Pat Keogh – 1998-2004 – 204 appearances, 57 goals
  • Manager – Alan Kernaghan – 2002-2004 – 93 games as manager, 52.7% win percentage

The majority of the side were part of the 1999-2000 Second Division Championship winning team, with youth academy product Brian Carrigan being joined by Andy McClay, Richie McCusker, Pat Keogh, Jack Ross and Mark McLaughlin, all of whom were plucked from the Junior ranks. The latter three players, along with Bryn Halliwell, were also part of Alan Kernaghan’s squad of 2003-04, which narrowly missed out on promotion to the SPL.

Kernaghan himself missed out on a spot in the XI by the narrowest of margins, with the long-serving Keith Knox pipping him to a centre-back place by just one vote. Knox played in the first game at Broadwood and was awarded a testimonial match in 1997. Craig Bryson and Eddie Malone, who both scored in arguably Clyde’s most memorable day at Broadwood against Celtic in January 2006, were also voted into the team, as was the talismanic David Goodwillie, who sits 6th in the club’s all-time top scoring charts.

The club would like to thank all those who took part and participated in the voting.
