Queen’s Park 1-0 Clyde
Queen’s Park took all three cinch League 1 points in the Glasgow derby at Firhill today thanks to a goal from Bob McHugh, despite the striker netting from an offside position.
The Bully Wee’s squad was depleted further with Barry Cuddihy, Mark Docherty and Jonathan Page all missing out from last Saturday’s XI, and they were replaced by Billy Mortimer, Kevin Nicoll and Matthew Elsdon. New signing Monday Samuel started on the bench.
The Spiders had the better chances throughout the game and could have taken the lead through Connor McBride in the opening minutes but he blazed well over the bar from only a few yards out after receiving a cross.
Bob McHugh then saw his acrobatic volley crack off the post, before Josh Bradley-Hurst pulled off a terrific save to deny Michael Doyle from a corner.
Clyde then lost Nick McAllister to injury at half-time with Gregory Tade taking his place, and the Frenchman created a chance for Lewis Jamieson shortly after his introduction. He played a cross into the box, but Doyle was able to get a tackle in before Jamieson could pull the trigger.
Adam Livingstone then saw his header through a crowd of bodies cleared off the line from a corner, beforet he hosts took the lead a minute before the hour mark.
Bradley-Hurst claimed the ball from a free-kick into the box, but collided with Scott Rumsby and spilled it. Peter Grant then poked the ball back towards goal, and McHugh tapped into an empty net. Video evidence clearly shows the striker being offside when the ball was played to him, but assistant referee Keiran Trayner failed to flag despite having a perfect view.
Jai Quitongo then had a chance to double the advantage after capatalising on defensive hesitancy, but dragged a low shot wide of target.
Queen’s Park were reduced to ten men 16 minutes from time when Grant was shown a second yellow card after tugging back Jamieson whilst breaking through on goal.
The Bully Wee were unable to make their numerical advantage count in the closing stages, and Bradley-Hurst was called into action again to deny Quitongo.
