Clyde 2-2 Airdrieonians
The Bully Wee twice came from behind in the closing stages against 2nd placed Airdrieonians at Broadwood this evening, with goals from substitutes Rob Jones and Billy Mortimer earning a point.
New signing Lewis Jamieson was handed a start alongside the returning David Goodwillie with Jones and Gregory Tade dropping to the bench. Kevin Nicoll also came in for his 100th Clyde appearance, in place of the unavailable Morgaro Gomis.
The Diamonds were the first to have an effort on target in the opening minutes, when Kyle MacDonald tried a powerful shot from outside the box, but Neil Parry was able to hold onto it.
Ally Love then came close for Clyde after creating space for himself and firing an effort towards goal, but Callum Fordyce got a touch with his head to send it just wide of the goal and behind for a corner.
In the second half Adam Frizzell cracked the crossbar with a speculative effort from distance, and moments later he played Callum Smith in one-on-one with Parry, but the ‘keeper got a leg to his shot and turned it into the side netting.
The game then exploded into life in the final 18 minutes. A neat passing move allowed Dylan Easton to receive the ball in the box, and he was able to curl a shot across Parry and into the corner of the net.
Danny Lennon brought Jones, Tade and Mortimer off the bench and all three subs made a major impact in the final result. With ten minutes remaining Aaron Splaine released Tade down the right wing and he dinked in a cross into the centre of the box. Jones timed his run to perfection and got in front of Craig Watson, to loop a header of the head of Airdrie ‘keeper Max Currie.
The visitors were back in front though just four minutes later. Smith’s shot was blocked by Docherty and Page, and the rebound fell into the path of Jordan Allan who stabbed home inside the six-yard box.
The Bully Wee did not give up though and made it all square again two minutes from time. A corner was cleared and was picked up by Adam Livingstone. His shot from 35 yards came back off the post and Mortimer was the first to react, sliding in to fire the rebound into the net.
Clyde could have taken all three points in stoppage time when Jones crossed to the unmarked Tade in the box. The Frenchman however rushed to get a shot away and didn’t make a proper connection, with Currie claiming his effort.
