Ally Loving Life at Clyde

Ally Love spoke to the official website as The Bully Wee reached that halfway point in their cinch League 1 campaign. The fan favourite reflected on the first half of the season and looked ahead to 2022:-

“It was quite stop start from a consistency point of view in the early part of the season, but I feel we’ve built a good bit of momentum now in the league over the past six games. We just need to keep that run going and see what it can bring. I’m really looking forward to the second half of the season, everyone wants to push on now and keep looking upwards. League 1 is a really tight league, a couple of wins could see us in those promotion playoff spots and that’s where we want to aim, but we’re aware at the same time a few bad results could see us slip so we’re not getting carried away.

Love also commented on the mood in the dressing room after the recent upturn in form:-

“The spirit in the camp is quite high. We were in a really bad place after the Clydebank match. It was embarrassing and the standard we showed on the day was nowhere near acceptable for this club. But the gaffer and Moorey got us in afterwards and brought us all together again. We chatted through our mistakes and things that weren’t going right, and vowed to make things better. I feel like we’ve rectified it a bit now; everyone is mucking in together and doing their bit to help us get up the league. We want to keep progressing as a team and a club and we need to keep building our consistency to get that.

The 30-year-old was handed the captain’s armband for the first time for the Boxing Day victory over Falkirk:-

“It was a real privilege and honour to be captain. This club means a lot to me and it has a strong place in my heart; the directors and backroom staff have always helped me and the fans are always on your side with encouragement too. We were down to the bare bones, and with Goody injured too we felt like we had to step up to the plate and all chip in, to take some of the burden off his shoulders. We worked really hard and did the basics well and that was key; we’ve let ourselves down this season with a lot of silly mistakes. The way we play under the gaffer means we’re always going to create chances and the goals will come, so it was important to keep it tight at the other end.

“It was really difficult without any Clyde fans in the ground as they make such a difference to us, but we had a gameplan and we stuck to it. Everyone went about their jobs individually and collectively, and we managed to get the home fans to turn on their team a bit, which definitely helped.

Sunday’s match against Queen’s Park will mark four years to the day since Love made his Bully Wee debut. The forward has a reputation for being a big game player, and has scored a plethora of important goals for the club:-

“The past four years are certainly my happiest in football. I feel right at home at Clyde and I enjoy giving absolutely everything whenever I cross over the white line. If I had to pick one absolutely favourite goal it would be the penalty against Annan in the playoffs to send us up. Hopefully there will be a lot more happy memories to come too. We want to start 2022 on a high and give the club a lift and hopefully progress to where we think it should be, higher up in the leagues.”
