Frank Macgregor

All at the club were saddened to learn of the passing of former player Frank Macgregor on Saturday.

The full-back signed for Clyde in November 1958 from junior side St. Anthony’s. Earlier that year whilst playing for Jordanhill Training College he won four caps for the Scotland Amateur international team, in matches against Wales, Ireland, Netherlands, and a memorable victory over England at Wembley.

Frank found it difficult to break into the first team during his time at Shawfield, with Albert Murphy, Harry Haddock and Joe Walters above him in the pecking order. He was a regular in the reserve team and did make two appearances for the first XI in January 1960.

His debut came against Celtic at Shawfield, where he was a last minute inclusion in a 3-3 draw. Frank kept his place in the team for the trip to Easter Road the following Saturday for a unique result in The Bully Wee’s history; it is their only competitive match to date which has ended in a 5-5 draw. He left Clyde in the summer of 1960.
