Danny Looks Forward to Being Together
Danny Lennon spoke to the official website today, for an update and his latest thoughts as the suspension of League 1 football continues.
The Clyde manager was, of course, keen to return to work as soon as possible but acknowledged the difficulty in completing the current season:-
“It’s frustrating and disappointing to be out of action and also that we’ve had a split between the top and bottom clubs, which raises questions about inequality again.
“However, we do have to remember the circumstances that we are living in at the moment. People are suffering in various ways and we know that the health service has been under huge pressure.
“In terms of the outstanding fixtures, I don’t know how, logistically, we’re going to do that. Player welfare has to be taken into account with any restart, especially for part-time players. It normally takes a month to hit your peak. Of course, for the part-time teams at least, everyone is in the same position.
“All we can do at the moment is wait for an update from the governing bodies.”
In terms of the squad, Danny confirmed that he was in regular contact with the group:-
“The players are doing ok and just desperate to be back playing as soon as possible. We’ve all become ‘Zoomers’ – it doesn’t make up for meeting up with family, friends or colleagues, but it’s been great to use that technology to stick together.”
Danny also confirmed that plans had been put in place to add to the squad, ahead of the 2020-21 campaign resuming:-
“We’ve got a verbal agreement with midfielder Michael McGlinchey, who will join us ahead of a restart. Michael has a wealth of experience in the game, including over 50 caps for New Zealand, and that’s something I feel that we’ll really need in an extremely busy schedule.
“We also have an agreement with St. Mirren to bring in another player on loan and we’ll confirm that ahead of a restart.”
Danny concluded with a message to supporters and asked them to try to stay positive in very difficult times:-
“No matter what happens now, that’s two seasons that have been interrupted, especially for the fans. If nothing else, let’s not let this affect a third season in 2021-22.
“Everyone is feeling this pandemic in some way, but I’m sure we’ll all be together soon as a Clyde family, so keep looking after yourself and look forward to that day coming.”
