Clyde 0-3 Falkirk

The Bully Wee returned to action for the first time in three weeks, but suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of table topping Falkirk at Broadwood this afternoon.

David Mitchell missed the game due to self-isolating, so Matej Vajs made his first League 1 start in goals.

Neither side made any real openings in the early stages of the game, but The Bairns broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark when Connor Sammon nodded down a high ball into the path of Charlie Telfer on the edge of the box, and he took a touch before rifling a low drive into the bottom corner of the net.

David Goodwillie looked to have equalised for The Bully Wee when he headed home Ross Cunningham’s cross, but was flagged offside in a very tight looking decision.

Falkirk doubled their advantage ten minutes after the restart after Scott Mercer was able to head home a corner from close range.

The visitors went 3-0 up four minutes later following more sloppy defending from a corner, and Ben Hall was able to crash the ball into the net.

Clyde had chances to pull goals back in the remainder of the game; Robbie Mutch made a fine save from Tom Lang’s shot and then Kris Syvertsen went on a solo run starting from inside his own half before playing in Ross Cunningham. His shot had Mutch beaten, but Sean Kelly was able to get back and make an impressive headed clearance off the line.

Substitute Josh Jack also had two efforts in the closing stages which he put either side of the target, as Falkirk claimed their first league points in Cumbernauld since April 2005.
