Club Update: Covid-19 Cases (8th Dec)

The club is pleased to report that first team training will return this evening, with the majority of the squad expected to take part, following the end of the required isolation periods for all affected players.

The four players who previously tested positive for Covid-19 will be assessed and closely monitored by the medical team and coaching staff.

Speaking ahead of a busy week in preparation for the visit of league leaders Falkirk to Broadwood, Clyde manager Danny Lennon said:-

“These are unprecedented times we are living in right now. The pandemic has brought fresh challenges to us as a football club, with no training possible for the last fortnight due to the virus.

“Missing out on training together at this stage of the season is hardly ideal, but success in football is all about overcoming challenges and I know that we will all react in the right way. We look forward to everyone returning to training now, allowing us to work together on the practices that we believe will help us to fulfil more of our potential in the games ahead.

“We will be working as hard as we can to ensure we make positive things happen for all of us associated with this wonderful club.”

The club can also confirm that it is continuing to liaise with the SPFL in preparation for an investigation into the circumstances leading to the postponement of the matches against East Fife and Forfar Athletic. This has been the process adopted by the SPFL where clubs have been forced to seek postponements of league matches arising from similar Covid-19 related challenges.

This process is distinct to the work of the SFA’s Joint Response Group (JRG), formed at the outset of the Covid pandemic. With the welfare of players and staff at its core, it provides the support, guidelines and framework within which clubs can create the required bio secure environment for their employees.

The club remains confident that it has adhered to those guidelines, which minimised the spread of the outbreak.

No further comment will be made until the final outcome of the investigation is published by the SPFL.
