PREVIEW: Clyde v Dumbarton
After 218 days, The Bully Wee return to competitive action today, as the 2020-21 season begins with a Betfred Cup Group E match against Dumbarton at Broadwood.
The match is, of course, being played behind closed doors due to the current Covid-19 situation. Supporters of both clubs can watch live from home for just £6 via the club’s new streaming service – Clyde FC Live. Click here for full details.
Jay Henderson will be unavailable for selection after travelling to England with the Scotland under-19 squad this week. Following a subsequent positive test result within the camp, resulting in the cancellation of the two planned friendly matches, he now requires to self-isolate for a two-week period.
Several others, however, are set to make their debut for The Bully Wee.
Should the match be level after 90 minutes, a penalty shootout will take place to award a bonus point to the successful team. Following the recent SFA rule change, up to five substitutes can now be made, on no more than three, plus at half-time, occasions for each club.
Speaking ahead of the tie, Danny Lennon stressed that he and the players would be mindful of supporter backing from further afar than usual:-
“We have all been missing competitive football. Now it’s back, the only way you can access seeing us play, for now, is through the live streaming service. It will be an incredible boost to the players and coaching staff to know that you are watching live.
“These are strange times and the empty stadiums have affected players in other leagues. We want to counteract that for us by talking about our online support watching, appreciating our efforts and expecting us to play for the jersey. I cannot emphasise enough how important you, the fans, have been in our journey of moving the club forward in my time here. We need to feel that connection with you, we need that feeling of togetherness.
“This has been, this is and always will be a joint effort – players, coaches, fans and the board. To know so many of you are watching live allows us to continue that connection, as best we can. This really matters.”
