Robert Donnelly
All connected with the club were saddened to hear of the passing of former player, Robert ‘Rab’ Donnelly.
Rab was with The Bully Wee between 1987 and 1989, making 31 starts and scoring three goals along the way.
A no-nonsense centre-half, Rab was signed in early October 1987 from amateur side Coatbridge CC, and made the transition to senior football quietly but effectively. After some good performances in the reserves, he soon made his first team debut against Queen of the South at Palmerston Park. Unfortunately, Clyde went down 3-1 in a match where former player Jim Doherty scored a hat-trick for The Doonhamers.
Rab dropped to the bench for the next few games but came back into the first team in December of that season and effectively stayed there for the remainder of the campaign, and then into the following season. He played his last game for Clyde in April 1989.
The club’s thoughts are with Rab’s family and friends at this sad time.
