Danny Calls for Further Support

Danny Lennon has given an update to the official website, as he returns to work this week following a period on furlough.

The Clyde manager urged supporters to do all they can to support the club, ahead of a crucial period preparing for the 2020-21 campaign. With digital season cards going on sale this weekend, and 1877 Rewards and club ownership already open, Danny stressed the importance of the success of all avenues of income:-

“There’s still a great deal of uncertainty, but we will be taking positive strides forward as best we can, starting right now. Decisions are being made on next season’s playing budget, so this is a really crucial time in terms of projected income and what the Board can commit to for the first team squad.

“As it stands currently, our playing budget for next season will be significantly less than last season, so difficult and sometimes unfair decisions have to be made regarding individual players. The level of support for season cards, donations and ownership will directly impact on how competitive we can be, in what’s going to be a very tough League 1.

“I know the fans give so much to support their beloved club. I’m also sure that they will embrace the various initiatives the club have launched to boost the finances going forward. I greatly appreciate all the supporters give and it is a real honour to serve them as manager of this great club.”

Danny confirmed that conversations were taking place with current members of the squad and that, alongside Sporting Director Graham Diamond, the recruitment process was also ongoing.

“Decisions have to be made on which players will be offered new contracts. Telling players they will not be offered a new deal is the toughest part of this job. The players who will be leaving are good pros, who have served our club well, and I know they will do a very good job for their next club. They will be leaving with their reputations intact and our very best wishes for their future.

“I am looking forward to working closely with Graham and seeing what we can achieve together for the club. The player recruitment process will be potentially highly competitive and have an entirely different dynamic this close season, given the amount of change Scottish football is undertaking.

“Perhaps now more than ever, how we perform in this area will have the biggest influence on what we achieve next season. I look forward to comparing notes on the players we have identified, for possibly having the privilege of pulling on the Clyde shirt for next season.”

Danny concluded with a positive message to everyone connected with the club:-

“This has been a unique and challenging time for all of us, since Covid-19 put a spanner in the works for life as we know it. My thoughts go out to everyone in the Clyde family who has been negatively impacted through this pandemic, whether it be bereavement, poor health, or financial difficulty. I hope you and your loved ones come out the other side safe.

“I have huge belief in the Board, coaches, players and fans at the club. During this time of great challenge, there is also great opportunity. By working together to the absolute best of our ability and giving everything we have for the cause, I truly believe we can continue our positive progression in my time here and advance the club once again.”
