David Steps Down

The club can announce that David Dishon is stepping down from his position as Chairman, and will also vacate his place on the Board.

David had previously announced that he would remain in the role until the end of the current season, but the business pressures brought on by the current Covid-19 situation has forced him to bring forward his planned departure.

He said: “It is with great sadness that I am both stepping down from my role as Chairman and I am leaving the Club which I have grown to love. I made the decision last year when I took on a very demanding new job and my parents needed caring for, so I couldn’t cope with juggling everything at night and weekends and something had to give. That something was Clyde as the step up to Chairman places incredible demands on my time and energy and I couldn’t do the role justice. It is now time for someone else to take us forward to the next step.

“I’ve enjoyed my time at the Club immensely and met some wonderful people across 12 years. I’ve visited every ground in the SPFL now, apart from Cove Rangers and away games were my favourite part of the job. Being on the team bus, having that post-match chat with Danny (win, lose or draw) and seeing different towns and people. I have very special memories, mainly good!

“I couldn’t have dreamt 12 years ago that asking to help out would eventually lead me to being Chairman and being part of the Board that saw us finally get promotion from League 2. That’s my favourite memory, closely followed by being Bully the Bull in the Cumbernauld 10km and Allan Moore breaking my ribs!

“I wish to thank every supporter that has wished me well and supported me through my time at the Club. It’s been an honour to serve as your Chairman and I now look forward to getting some much-needed time back in my life.

“I wish you every success in the future – once football starts back again – and I’ll always follow the team’s scores. With Danny and Allan as the management team and the talented squad of players we have, I can only see a bright future for The Bully Wee! Thank you again… keep the faith!”

Vice-Chairman, John Taylor added: “David had confirmed his intentions to us last year, and while we were all disappointed at the prospect of losing him we fully understood, and respected, his rea-sons for stepping down. All Clyde fans will remember the pivotal role he played in steering the club back to financial health in the years that followed the 2004 Creditors Voluntary Arrangement, not to mention the success of achieving promotion last season.

“David’s financial background, in addition to his experience in football with Rangers and Newcastle United made him an ideal acquisition. He joined the club as a voluntary Project Manager in February 2008 and was invited onto the Clyde Board in June of that year.

“It has been an absolute pleasure working with David, who despite being a Hibs fan from his boyhood, grew to love Clyde in equal measure. We wish him well, thank him for his unstinting service to the club and know that he will continue to closely follow the fortunes of The Bully Wee.”

The Board has been working behind the scenes to address the filling of key roles, as identified in the club’s recent strategic plan, however the effect of Covid-19 has affected that recruitment process. 

In response to the specific issues that the club is facing in these unprecedented times, a further announcement will follow in regard to reinforcing the Board and its structure, ensuring that it maintains and enhances the appropriate mix of skills necessary to steer the club safely through the current unprecedented challenges it faces.
