PREVIEW: Clyde v Celtic
Clyde are back in William Hill Scottish Cup action tomorrow, as current cup holders Celtic make the short trip to Broadwood for a Fifth Round tie.
It’s the first meeting of the sides since the famous 2-1 win for The Bully Wee in the same competition in 2006.
The same squad that travelled to Forfar last week will be available for selection, with both new loan signings Ross Cunningham and Adam Livingstone also eligible to take part.
After taking an extra training session with the squad today, Danny Lennon spoke to the official website ahead of the eagerly anticipated match:-
“The Scottish Cup is a prestigious competition – the oldest one out there – and it’s great to still be in it. Tomorrow is a wonderful occasion; to test ourselves against the country’s best team at this moment in time. If we are to get a positive result out of this tie it will have to be a monumental effort for the full 90 minutes.
“When the draw was made there was a great excitement around the place and our own fanbase and immediately it takes you back to 2006. It’s very important to remember what was achieved that day, but we’re 14 years down the line now and we’re looking at a Celtic side that is in absolutely terrific form. They’ve won every domestic competition for the last three years so it’s going to be the type of challenge that you look forward to as a player and as a coach, facing the best.
“We’re going to have to be at our very best. It’s going to be a wonderful atmosphere and the town of Cumbernauld will certainly be buzzing.
“The fans will play a massive part for us tomorrow. We’re going to be a bit outnumbered but there will certainly be spells in the game when the Bully Wee faithful will definitely make themselves heard. As long as we know that they’re there, we know where to find them. The supporters have always been very important to us in every game, and even more so tomorrow. I talk about the players being at the top of their game, but it’s also important that our fans are on the top of theirs as well and I’ve no doubt they will be.
“They’ll know the challenge that’s in front of us, but it’s one that we’re looking forward to. Can lighting strike twice? Well, miracles do happen.”
