CITY OF GLASGOW CUP: Partick Thistle 9-1 Clyde

A young Clyde side was on the end of a heavy loss against an experienced Partick Thistle team at Firhill this evening in the City of Glasgow Cup.

The Bully Wee squad was mostly made up of players from the community teams, with only Michael McGee, Liam Allison, Tony Wallace and Darren Smith coming from the first-team squad.

The hosts took an early lead but Clyde came back into the game and equalised in the 24th minute. Johnny McCabe made a run down the left and fizzed a low cross into the box, which the Thistle ‘keeper parried into the path of Fraser Malcolm, who prodded into the net from close range.

The Jags then dominated proceedings and Clyde had Michael McGee to thank for keeping them in the game, with the ‘keeper pulling off half a dozen top drawer saves. The Firhill side did score another two goals and went into the interval 3-1 up.

It was all one-way traffic in the second half and Partick carved open the Clyde defence on numerous occasions. McGee again made several fine stops but had to pick the ball out of the back of the net on a further six occasions.

CLYDE: McGee, Elder, McCabe, Lindsay, Allison, McNulty, McQueen (Connor 61′), Wallace, Malcolm (McLaren 53′), Smith, McNiven.
