PREVIEW: Dumbarton v Clyde

The Bully Wee travel to Dumbarton tomorrow as the 2019-20 Ladbrokes League 1 season continues.

It’s the first league meeting of the sides since 2010 and only Clyde’s third visit to the C&G Systems Stadium since its opening. The two clubs are currently separated by a single point in the table.

For Clyde tomorrow, David Goodwillie is suspended and four players continue to be ruled out through injury; Ross Lyon, Declan Fitzpatrick, Kristoffer Syvertsen and John Rankin.

On the latter’s recovery from a broken ankle, Danny Lennon gave a short update on the progress:-

“John is due to see his specialist again in the middle of October. He’s back running and not too far away, but he has an impingement from a pin that was inserted and that might need a procedure. We’ll find out soon what the next step is.

“We’ve certainly missed John’s ability and leadership and he is equally keen to be back involved as soon as possible.”

On recent events and looking ahead to the match, Danny continued:-

“The boys have worked very hard again this week as we prepared our game plan for tomorrow. It’s disappointing to lose David and, in my opinion as a player and a coach, there is no way that the challenge should be classed as violent conduct. He’d be a big miss for any team and not just us but, as always when a player is ruled out, it’s now a chance for others to take the opportunity and shine.

“We’ve shown multiple sides to our game in recent weeks, which has been pleasing. I thought last week was a good, open game until the red card and we were looking strong. After that, we had to change our shape but the discipline level was fantastic. What we do out of possession is just as important as what we do with it and that’s something we work hard on.

“We won’t settle for where we are though – we’ll aim to go out and improve again and be even better in all areas. We want to come away from away venues with all three points and that’s the challenge at Dumbarton tomorrow.”
