PREVIEW: Clyde v Queen of the South

The Bully Wee take on Championship side Queen of the South tomorrow, in the third round of the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup.

It’s the first competitive meeting of the two clubs at Broadwood since 2009, with a place in Tuesday’s fourth round draw at stake.

No changes are expected to the Clyde squad following last week’s match at Forfar, with Alex Petkov ineligible and John Rankin, Kristoffer Syvertsen and Declan Fitzpatrick still recovering from injury.

Speaking ahead of the match, Danny Lennon said:-

“It’s been very pleasing to see everything we have been working on come to fruition in our performances against Falkirk and Forfar recently. We’re defending much better as a team and we’ve been rewarded with two clean sheets. We were disappointed only to come away with a point from Forfar, but the level of the performance made that a bit more bearable.

“We’re striving to add to our points tally week on week, while also progressing in the cup competitions. Tomorrow is a chance to do that. We played Queen of the South in pre-season and matched them very well in the first half, but we know the qualities that they have, especially at the top end. That will be a challenge for our defenders to see how far they’ve come.

“It’s always nice to challenge yourself against opposition from a higher league and it always brings a bit of a buzz and excitement. It’s a good tie to keep the momentum going and we’ve got a few players who will benefit from getting some minutes. This is an opportunity to make those changes and it’s important that all of the squad are competing with each other in a healthy manner.”
