David Achieves Notable Feats

Sun, 15th Sep 2019 3:35pm

David Goodwillie's five goals in yesterday's match against Stranraer was a notable feat in the club's history, for two reasons.

The 30-year-old is the first Clyde player to score five goals in a single match in 68 years - and only the third to do so in the post-war era.

The previous man was Billy McPhail during the club's record 11-1 over Cowdenbeath in October 1951. Alex Linwood also scored five times in a 6-2 win over Queen's Park in the Glasgow Cup in September 1949.

The record for most goals in a match belongs to Leslie Johnston, who scored six times in a Southern League match against Dumbarton during the Second World War.

David also becomes the first player in Clyde history to score a hat-trick of penalties in a match.
