PREVIEW: Clyde v Airdrieonians

Clyde’s Betfred Cup Group F campaign continues tomorrow, with a match against fellow League 1 side Airdrieonians.

As a reminder, the match will take place at Hamilton’s newly renamed Fountain of Youth Stadium, due to the ongoing pitch replacement project at Broadwood.

The Diamonds began their competitive season with a narrow 1-0 defeat at Partick Thistle last Saturday, with The Bully Wee losing out 3-1 to Hamilton Accies at Ochilview in midweek.

Clyde will continue to be without John Rankin and Ally Love tomorrow, with no changes to the squad expected after Wednesday night’s match.

Speaking to the official website this afternoon, Danny Lennon said:-

“I think especially for the part-time teams, the Betfred games are great for getting competitive action under the belt and preparing for the league campaign. The format probably favours the full-time clubs but it offers us the chance for a great test, as we got on Wednesday night.

“I thought we competed well for the most part, but Hamilton’s levels started to show near the end. We’ve now got to focus on doing more of what we did well, particularly in the first half, for the full 90 minutes. Overall, I took a lot of encouragment from what we did and we know the areas that we need to work on.

“Airdrie will be in our league this season, having played at a higher level for a number of years, and that’s the challenge we’ve set up for ourselves. I’m sure there will be a lot to take from this match and we know that it’s important to finish as high in the group as we possibly can.”
