UNDER-20s: Clyde 2-1 QotS

Clyde’s under-20s recorded an impressive win in the Development League West on Monday night against Queen of the South at Palmerston Park.

The match was officially a home fixture for The Bully Wee, but was switched to Dumfries due to a venue issue. New assistant, William Torrance took his place in the dugout for the first time.

The game started evenly, before Clyde started to get on top, getting on the ball and getting a passing game going which caused Queen of the South problems. The opening goal came towards the end of the half. A Dylan Henry shot was saved, but a well worked corner from Ronan Sweeney saw him find Chris Martin and he managed to smash the ball into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. The Bully Wee did have some more chances before half-time, but couldn’t convert any of them. 

The second half saw The Doonhamers change their system, which put them on the front foot. However, Clyde managed to settle into the game again and some good play between Lewis Warnock and Robbie Davidson allowed the ball to break to striker Henry, who shot over the ‘keeper to double Clyde’s lead. Queen of the South got a goal back towards the end of the game as Clyde failed to clear a set play, but the youngsters managed to hold on for the three points.

Under-20s manager Tony McNally spoke to the official website following the victory:-

“Firstly, I am delighted to have William Torrance on board – he will be a great addition to the club.

“The performance from the players was excellent. We tried a couple of things with a couple of players and they all showed up very well. The commitment of everyone travelling down to Dumfries was great and shows great character as well.

“Recent weeks have been tough for the lads. The 20s are going through a transition period and we are starting to make new signings to beef up the squad, not just with numbers but with quality. We feel that we have started that process and over the coming weeks we will see some more new additions, which will no doubt make the team stronger collectively.”
